Stay Home

Someone called who wants to go to Jamaica, but is afraid of getting sick and being treated there.  I advised their plan pays for the transport home for medical issues, once the doctors there determine you’re stable enough to be transported.  They wanted to know if there was a way to be just transported home, by passing the local medical care.  Nope, we will only pay for transport once you’re well enough to travel, thou you can pay for it yourself.  If you are so concerned over this can I make a suggestion?  Don’t go!

If you’re so controlling that you have to have your spouse call us and then are screaming at them directions from the background so they get your questions answered.  One thing needs to happen, your spouse needs to move on with their life and hand you the phone, banshee!

Dual

My employer recently hired identical twins, which has caused a little confusion for some, not really a surprise.  I was aware of them since I saw them the first day they started to work here.  But a coworker didn’t know and approached me one day about the new girl and that he noticed she would change cloths during the day and thought she might be a bit vain.  He was very embarrassed when I pointed out that she was a twin and they both worked here.

I’m Still Here

My mother in law has been living with me for years now and she has no idea who anyone is, I miss her. She’s a great lady who went back to school and raised 5 children on her own (ages 6 to 16) after my father in law passed in his early 40’s. Anyhow, one of her children has never set foot in my house since she arrived here. I know everyone reacts differently to illness of a love one, but I’ve often wondered if they ever regret staying away? Even if she doesn’t know you, doesn’t mean you should forget her. It would also be nice if just some of her grandchildren even stopped by. It’s all kind of sad.

To Conquer

We all have our demons that we have to deal with to get through life. One of my great curiosities has been creative people with tremendous gifts and them then dying of drug over doses. With all that life has given them, what was missing for them? I know you need more than things to be happy, but they offered so much to us, what was it they needed that they couldn’t find anywhere else except in the haze of drugs? Was there others ways they could have found what they needed to fill that void? I understood what it is I feel that I’m missing in my life and have figured out how to work through it. How I was able to arrive at this personal understanding, but they never were able to? Maybe because I stayed in my reality; didn’t look for an escape from it and worked my way through it. Look at one of favorite singers, Whitney Houston, her success was epic, her down fall was complete.

Appreciate It

I was watching Billy Crystal’s 700 Sundays tonight and it was a well done and heartfelt tribute to his parents. At one point he mentions how after his mother died he was an orphan. I have long felt this way before he ever expressed it. I miss my parents often and wish I could just call and talk to them. I remember the last time I talked to my Mom and even though she was dying, she recognized my voice. I’ve always treasured that conversation. Thou my Dad’s passing wasn’t a surprise, it was still devastating just the same and I lost it. No matter how old you are their still Mom and Dad and their loss always hurts. For me it’s been more than 700 Sundays since my Dad died and I wish for just one more.

I was once told by a psychic that every time a see a Cardinal, it’s my Dad checking up on me. I can live with that, even if I don’t necessarily buy into it, I like saying “Hi Dad” when I see a Cardinal land nearby. It brings a certain amount of comfort to me.

Yeah, Whatever

I was assisting a customer with their travel insurance the other day when she shared a story of her travels. Apparently she is an avid scuba diver and once while doing a night dive off Jamaica, the crew failed to do a head count and left her stranded 2 ½ miles off shore. Most people would be scared sh*tless, she saw it as an adventure. She inflated her floatie and swam ashore. I just loved her attitude, it was oh well, guess I’m swimming. She even said the crew was probably smoking weed and that’s why they hadn’t noticed. I need her attitude and zest for life.

Secret, Yeah Right

There’s limits to everything and perhaps that’s the part I don’t like. Yes I read The Secret, I don’t buy into it. If there is enough for everyone, then way did the people involved with production of The Secret sue each other for more? Weren’t they happy with what the universe had given them? Maybe the book should have been called The Sharing, where the really rich people share with the rest of us? For The Secret is never going to happen when The Greedy take more than they need.

No to Jason

I went camping a long time ago during a cold February with my youth group at one of our favorite haunts. We were staying in a cabin next to a frozen swamp. The camp ranger stopped by and it turned out he was really good at telling scary stories. At one point he had our complete attention when he said; suddenly there was a noise and at that exact moment one of the sleeping adults let out a loud snore. That scared the crap out of us. Of course no one would admit to being scared of the Jason character living in the swamp next door and taking children that was being spoken of. Though the ranger did mention two remedies to stay safe; hockey sticks and books left by the entrances to the cabin would keep him away. It was amazing how quickly these items did appear by the doors. But then we weren’t afraid of the boogie man outside; that was until the lights went out.

Don’t Be Stupid

A claimant called upset about the amount we paid on their claim. Now people threaten to send their lawyers after us all the time. This person then got weirder; they threaten us with Trayvon Martins lawyer? Can’t make this kind of crazy up, whoever this lawyer might be, I don’t think they specialize in insurance law. When the representative didn’t respond to their threat, they got even more upset. What would a logical response have been to that anyhow? Plus why bring up a murdered teen in pursuing your argument? Trayvon, RIP, has nothing to do with your situation and shouldn’t even be mentioned as part of it. Another greedy example of wanting more than they got and then believing dumb threats are going to get it for them.

Huff & Puff

I was speaking to a travel agent taking in a claim and it was very obvious I was bothering them with my questions. They were all huffing and puffing as they gave me answers. When I was making my concluding statement, they cut me off and asked for the claim #. When I advised it hadn’t been generated yet and offered the reference #, they again cut me off and hung up without the info. If they paid a little attention and didn’t act like I was wasting their time, they would possess necessary info. But since they didn’t, I wasn’t going out of my way to assist. Pleaze don’t huff and puff and blow My Cabin In The Woods down!

Anti Spidie

When I first bought my house I had a lot of yard work to do to clean up the property. It had been a rental for a while and stuff was allowed to grow anywhere it desired. Well during this process I keep finding pieces of Spiderman action figures scatter all over the place. I’d find a leg here, head in another place, torso etc. I think I could have assembled about eight Spiderman from the debris. Some prior occupant seems really to have hated Spiderman or just loved to pull them apart. It’s hard to say, but it was very weird. Perhaps it had something to do with the headless Virgin Mary that came with the house, an offerings perhaps? I also have a roll of barbed wire in my crawl space. I think something strange must have been going on prior to my arrival. Also for years after I moved in the police would show up from time to time looking for a specific person, wonder why?

Seriously

I worked for a hospital, ambulance service, once. They wanted to do a major upgrade and expansion of the facility, funding it via donations. For whatever reason the outfit they hired to lead this process told my employer that they had to solicit their employees first for money towards this project. I believe it might have been so they could show any potential donors that the staff was all in. Myself, I declined to participate, I was barley paying my bills as it was, I wasn’t giving any of my paycheck back. After I left that job I happen by the hospital years later and wouldn’t you know the expansion never happened. So what happen to all that money the employees who bought into this program gave? It seemed like a scam to me that the employees had to contribute to this expansion in the first place. I recently Google this hospital and some twenty odd years later they are trying to expand again, wonder if they want their employees money again?

Grown Up Response

During my years on ambulances I had many partners. Most of them I had no problem working with, but there was one per diem partner I couldn’t stand or avoid. Their response to perceived wrongs in their life was to sue. Then all they would talk about for the 12 ½ shift was their lawsuits at me and anyone else who would be dumb enough to listen. With me they had a captive audience. I wanted to drive the ambulance over them, thou if I had, they would have sued. Could I have sued them for emotional distress, I wonder? From what they told me, even thou I didn’t inquire, all their suits sounded petty to me. If they didn’t get what they believed they were entitled to in a situation, their response was to call their lawyer. I have no idea how any of these suits turned out and don’t really care other than I hope they didn’t get a cent. They really thought they had hit a jackpot thou. I hope the only pot they got was full of sh*t, just what they were entitled to.

Oh Really

A lawyer called about the insurance policy they bought. They tried telling us they are not bound by it since they chose not to read it but did agree to its terms and conditions. Says a lot about their skill as a lawyer, but it still won’t hold up, they checked on the accept button, end of discussions.

Why I Want A Cabin

If you were look up the definition of azzhole in a dictionary, I’ve talked to the person who’s picture is there. Few callers get under my skin, he however succeeded. He was so beyond condescending that a new term would need to be invented just for him. He is the azzhole that other azzholes aspire to be just like, gold standard if you will. To me he IS the reason I want a Cabin In The Woods!

Chirp Chirp

I was setting up a claim and asked for their last name, which was Jordan, for some reason they spelled it for me (not necessary). Then I ask for their first name and they say Tahnaisha; I heard crickets waiting for them to spell it out. Really, you think I can’t spell your last name, but I can your first. You have a strange opinion of my spelling skills.

Crammed

My 17 year old showed me a video of them and 7 other of their closes friends crammed into a car built for 4 driving around town. It’s little wonder their never going to borrow my 8 passenger minivan. I have no desire to learn just how many teenagers they could cram into that car.

EVIL ENTITY

You bought an insurance policy without reading what it covers, but rather ass(u)med its coverage and now were an EVIL ENTITY that going to hold you to it. Blah, Blah, Blah. Next time be an informed consumer and read it, if you don’t, not our problem. There are no secrets or misrepresentation by us; it’s all there to read. In fact you checked off the box that you read and understood it, do you recall that?

Jilted

A jilted bride to be called in to put a claim in for the honeymoon that was not to be when we discovered her ex beau had already done so. However he was claiming her half of the cruise with the name of another woman. She wanted to know who that person is? I advised; ask him. I don’t get involved in domestic disputes, always a bad idea.

This Is So Sad

I bought a book from one of my favorite authors a while back because it didn’t look familiar so I figured I read it. Today when I cracked it open it quickly became apparent that had I not only read this book, but I read it last year. I think I’ve lost too many brain cells from my years of not drinking.

Time Out

Someone called about a refund and as I was explaining the process and they then decided to jump off the bridge screaming I’m a lawyer you mother fu*ker and I want to speak to your supervisor now! Being they were having a tantrum, I put them in a time out for 5 minutes before I transferred them. As I was in the process of actually transferring them to a supervisor they hung up. Telling me you’re a lawyer is a non-threat, swearing at me is going to get you a time out. Act like a child, get treated like one.

Admit One

Once knew a person who would only buy Jeep Wranglers. They said they felt a sense of community with drivers of other Wranglers which I found a bit strange. I currently own 2 mini vans so shouldn’t I also feel a sense of community with other minivan owners? Well I don’t feel anything; mini vans just suit my current life style. I think this person was perceiving this feeling in the desire just to belong to some alleged group.
