No Doubt In My Mind

Back in the 1980’s I was volunteering my time working on ambulances. Our service got called out to a motorcycle accident and upon arrival it was obviously a fatality. So the crew called in to dispatch to inform them of this. The dispatcher came back and asked if they were certain the victim was deceased. Well back in the 80’s everything was done on open airways and anyone could be listening. The crew tried to tell dispatch as diplomatically as possible that they were certain the victim was deceased without giving out to much information over the airways. But the dispatcher kept insisting over and over again to be more specific as to how they had arrived at this decision. Frustrated with them the crew finally said, because their head is between their legs, is that clear enough for you? That shut them up. They were only trying to respect the deceased, the dispatcher was being an azzhole by second guessing them. When they can see what’s going on and the dispatcher can’t they shouldn’t ass(u)me and just accept what their being told.

I also remember an overnight shift back when ET was a popular movie. One of the sheriff deputies on duty had the initials ET and around 2am I heard on their frequency, ET phone home. An unusual way to get the message out.
