Indispensable Backbone

7/10/15

Ever have a co-worker who has convinced themselves that they are the indispensable backbone of a company and if they were to leave the place would just fall apart. However that’s not actually the case, if anything, it’s the exact opposite of that is true. If they were to leave, things would probably run better. This person will argue endlessly with you as to how valuable they are to the company. But in reality, the co-workers that they believe are, “holding the company back and slacking off”, are actually doing more than they are. This person is so intent on proving their superior work habits (mostly to their boss, who usually knows better) that they can’t see the fact that they are not the most important worker there. In their “reality”, no one works harder than them, and gives more of themselves. But then they will complain that no one really appreciates how hard they work! That they don’t get their due rewards, or someone less qualified gets promoted over them and they can’t understand why? To most of their co-workers they know this person is full of sh*t, and if you were to disagree with them, well, that’s a whole other argument. The only people they are really fooling are themselves. This illusion of superiority is what they work very hard at! This is their “reality”.
